Anantara Phuket Villas

 

Anantara Phuket Villas is situated on the quiet Mai Khao beach Marine reserve, a breeding ground for sea turtles.  The resort consists of 91 private pool villas that offer ultimate privacy thanks to the high walled gardens.  I arrived mid afternoon to be greeted by a gong and flower lei ceremony before taken to the central outdoor pavillion for registration.

 

As all the villas are walled the resort when walking around can seem slightly unpersonal and preplanned with a grid like layout set around a central lake.  Bikes are readily available all throught out the resort for guest to make their way to the beach, spa and other areas. If you dont feel like walking or riding a bike golf buggies are also available and the staff are more than happy to drive you to your destination.  The resort is located next to the JW Marriott and guess are invited to make use of restaurant facilities at both hotels. There is also a small shopping mall near by with limited dininig options.

 

The villas are well designed with a distinct asian feel with the private pool taking center stage with the villa itself on one side and an outdoor Sala on the opposite end with a private wine bar that can be stocked to our preferences.

 

La Sala is the casual restaurant of the resort serving a near perfect organic breakfast with the chef constantly checking up on the the guests and making suggestions.  For sundowners The Tree House Bar is a must with great cocktails and Thai inspired tapas.  Sea.Fire.Salt is located next to the the infinity pool offering lunch dishes and an evening barbeque.

 

Anantara Phuket Villas may not be perfect and is starting to show some wear and tear but for the price point it commands and the privacy of the pool villas, very little on the secluded Mai Khao Beach can compete.  If you just want to relax and enjoy the sun on Mai Khao and escape the crowds of the JW Marriott mega resort or the more package oriented Renaissance or Holiday Inn, Anantara is a clear choice with warm thoughtful service.
