Four Seasons Hotel George V Paris

As I arrived at Charles de Gaulle airport the Four Seasons representative waited for me at the aircraft door to ensures a smooth transfer through immigration and customs, introducing me to my driver for the 40 minute drive to the hotel, located just off the Champs Elysee in the very heart of Paris.  The first thing that vaught my attention when entering the Four Seasons George V is the impossibly impeccable flower arrangments layed out in the central foyer, as I was whisked past reception directly to my room for check-in.

The George V originally opened in 1928 and is a very grand affair, but at the same time manages to be stylishly discreet.  Rooms are decorated in a traditional manner ranging from the more modest Superior room to the opulent Penthouse Suite.

I stayed at the Four Seasons suite with a separate bedroom with a king size bed and large sitting room separated by sliding doors. Whilst the room was very spacious and decorated with period furniture in keeping with the buildings history, the suite felt slightly bare and could have done with additional furnishing or perhaps indoors plants.  A complimentary bottle of wine and snacks were waiting in the room on arrival. Housekeeping was always prompt and invisible as it should be in a hotel of this calibere, only once was I bothered with the Do Not Disturb sign on the door, which frankly shouldnt happen, but it was handled well by the hotel.

The hotel houses the two michelin star restaurant "Le Cinq" serving traditional french cuising in an astoundingly ornate setting with impeccabel service. More casual meals can be taken at "La Gallerie" whilst people watching the comings and goings of hotels guests.

A true highlight of the hotel is the Four Seasons Spa, located in the basement and accessible by private lift from each guestfloor, eliminating the embarrasment of having to share a lift in your bathrobe with other guests, perhaps slightly more formally dressed.  The Spa houses individual treatment rooms, a sauna and a stunning indoor pool and jacuzzi.  A real must see, if staying at the George V.

Paris has a lot of competition in the top of end of grand hotel segment, but the Four Seasons George V continues to hold its own with ease.
